Hey there, Mr. "drummerneeded",
I am interested in your ad and would like to talk to you more about it.
My vital stats:
I live in New Ken/Arnold. Have played drums for over 20 years. Been in many bands (it's what allowed me to have pizza & beer money all throughout college - Penn State main - playing at many frats & bars). One such band after I graduated from said college, was Pangea - with good ol' P&S guys, Dave Lewis, Ken Steele, and Shawn Madden. Played with them for a couple years. Oh yeah - I worked at P&S for 8 years with those guys. (Back in the rental dept. with Frank & Jim). Good times...
Now I work full time in Freeport as a concept artist. (I also do some freelance art work on the side)
Influences: Neil Peart (duh), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Vinny Caliutta (Sting, Zappa, many other studio and solo gigs), Carter Beuford (Dave Matthews), Bonham (kind of a given), Alex VH, Danny Carey (Tool), and many more....pretty opened minded to any quality music.
I'm not looking to be a rockstar - just wanna play out and have fun. My ideal gig would be 1 to 2 gigs a month with - as you said - practices as needed once things get rolling. It sounds like you know the drill as well when it comes to the hardships of getting a band going, and that's what I'm dealing with now. My last band was doing real well - but ended up doing too well - all the guys wanted to book every offer that they received and play as much as they could. They are called Jimbo Jackson & the Soupbones, and are still going strong, but they started gigging 4 to 5 times a month (sometimes twice a weekend) and traveling way too far for shows. Ended up being too much work (not to mention a strain on my personal life), so I had to bow out. They have a nice website that you can check out. They were fun and I miss playing with them, but alas - when it turned into work, I had to quit.
Anyways - I'm in the middle of trying to get a project going now - just a cover band - but it's not going very well. As you know, it's difficult coordinating schedules, and all kind of things keep coming up that are preventing us from getting anywhere - so it's becoming frustrating. Just looking elsewhere now to see if there are any other better options. So gimme a call or email me to let me know if you're interested. 724-980-3532 or jpmartist@hotmail.com
